Is luxury vinyl flooring pet-friendly?

Luxury vinyl is a terrific flooring solution if you have pets. Our furry friends can be pretty tough on floors, what with nails that scratch and dent, those times when they mistake the floor for the great outdoors or track in dirt and moisture from outside.

Why it’s great for pets

1. 100% waterproof capabilities, whether the floor is submerged or spilled on. Even the tiniest amount of liquid can harm some floors, but even a toppled water dish or accident won't bother this surface.

2. Durability, with multi-layering and being five times thicker than original vinyl flooring. At the very top is a transparent, robust, melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and dents, also with a clear urethane coating to make it even stronger. True LVF should be at least 8-mm thick; wear layers are measured separately, and, for a home with animals, you want the beefiest one, 20-mils.

3. Good traction, so if your dog or cat runs, they will be able to stop when needed, such as at corners. Since vinyl is resilient, this floor is warm, flexible, and easy on the joints, something a senior pet will appreciate.

Visual appeal for humans!

Inspired by nature, this flooring provides incredibly realistic images of wood, stone, and tile with micro beveling and embossing to add depth, dimension, and textured looks, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.

Adding to the realism, it can be cut into boards to mimic hardwood, called luxury vinyl plank or LVP. It's also available in groutable square cuts called luxury vinyl tile or LVT.

Low maintenance, these floors require just a regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Installation can also be fast and easy, especially when it's a floating floor that is clicked, mat, and hover.
